Events that took place in Fairfax County in March, 1993:
- March 5 – Springfield Mall becomes the first shopping mall in Fairfax County to ban smoking in its public areas.[1]
- March 13 – Michael Martin is stabbed to death by James Cowan at the maximum security facility of the Lorton Correctional Complex.
- March 28 – The 36-inch Colonial Pipeline buried near the parking lot of the Reston Hospital Center ruptures, sending a 100-foot geyser of diesel oil spraying into the air in Reston, eventually spilling over 400,000 gallons of the fuel and polluting the nearby Sugarland Run.[2]
