Events that took place in Fairfax County in October, 1993:
- October 24 – 41-year-old Jesus B. Arreaga is shot and mortally wounded by Fairfax County police officer Frank Stecco when Arreaga reaches for a knife in his belt in the stairway of the Meadow Woods Apartments in Alexandria. Arreaga is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies early the next morning following surgery.[1]
- October 28 – Herndon police officers Michael B. Berg and Lawrence A. Whitmer shoot and mortally wound 24-year-old Jonathan S. Smith, who had broken into his ex-girlfriend's Herndon townhouse and barricaded himself inside, when he threatens the officers with a knife. Smith is taken to the Reston Hospital Center, where he dies.[2]
- October 29 – On her way to a party to celebrate her recent birthday, 14-year-old Christina Winkler is killed by 38-year-old drunk driver Sheila D. Hostetter as she and her 14-year-old friend Lane attempt to cross Reston Parkway in Reston.[3]
