- October 12 – In a 9-1 vote, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approves a revitalization plan for five areas in the county: the Route 1 corridor in Alexandria, the Baileys Crossroads and Seven Corners areas of Falls Church, McLean, Annandale, and Springfield.[1]
- October 14 – Dwayne A. Wright is executed for the murder of Saba Tekle in October 1989 in Annandale.[2][3]
- October 16 – 44-year-old David W. Rider is asphyxiated in his Franconia apartment by 28-year-old Michael D. Waits to settle an argument.[4][5][6]
