Events that took place in Fairfax County in October, 2005:
- October 2 – 48-year-old investment adviser and radio host Rick Malone dies in a fall at his home at 6319 Cavalier Corridor in the Lake Barcroft neighborhood of Falls Church.[1]
- October 21 – 19-year-old Durrell M. Pretty is sentenced to 13 years in prison by Judge Jane Marum Roush for the fatal shooting of Brendan H. Tash on March 6.[2]
- October 29 – A failed suicide by cop attempt by 56-year-old Joseph D. Oliver at the Archstone Sussex Commons apartment complex in Kingstowne ends when Oliver shoots and gravely injures Fairfax County Police officer Pete Feigleson and nearly hits officer Scott McKaskill. Police return fire, seriously injuring Oliver.[3]
