- September 23 – Nelson Noe Moreno is convicted of first-degree murder for stabbing his girlfriend, 27-year-old Maria J. Alvarenga, to death in her home in Alexandria on November 18, 2004.[1]
- September 23 – 31-year-old Judy J. Coate is raped, beaten and stabbed to death by 40-year-old Matthew M. Dowdy in Falls Church.[2][3]
- September 26 – The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors votes to grant a non-exclusive 15-year franchise to Verizon Communications to sell cable television service in the county.[4]
