Events that took place in Fairfax County in October, 2016:
- October 2 – 400 people are evacuated from the building at 6631 Wakefield Drive in the River Towers condominiums in Alexandria when part of the building shifts, damaging 180 condos in the 53-year-old building.[1][2]
- October 6 – The Fairfax County School Board announces that deputy superintendent Steven A. Lockard will serve as interim superintendent following the departure of Karen K. Garza.[3]
- October 7 – 20-year-old Michael N. Powell is sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2015 murder of Khalid Aboumalik in the Huntington Park in Alexandria, with 15 of those years suspended.[4]
- October 8 – 37-year-old Yesenia Esmeralda Funes is killed in a hit-and-run crash by 23-year-old Khoa Do Dang Nguyen on Interstate 66 in Fairfax.[5][6]
- October 15 – While chasing his dog, 46-year-old James C. Kim walks into the road and is struck by a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by a 23-year-old man on Prosperity Avenue near Morningside Drive in Fairfax. Kim is taken to the hospital, where he dies.[7][8][9]
- October 18 – 55-year-old motorcyclist Joseph T. Timpane is struck and killed by an 81-year-old woman when she runs a red light at the intersection of Route 7 and Towlston Road in Vienna.[10]
- October 21 – 19-year-old Haroon Jameel unintentionally kills himself when he crashes his 2016 Yamaha R3 motorcycle into the back of a disabled truck on Sully Road near the Lee Jackson Memorial Highway in Chantilly.[11]
