- August 1, 1977 – Fairfax County Police Officers Maurice W. Painter, Jr. and Corporal Colin W. Morgan fatally shoot 24-year-old criminal suspect Michael L. Owen following a robbery when Owen points a double-barreled shotgun at the officers.
- August 1, 2001 – Despite minor nimbyism from several local residents, the Fairfax County Park Authority's board of directors approves construction of the county's third dog park in the Mason District Park.
