- March 16, 1930 – 17-year-old cousins Marvin and Floyd Shepherd make a grisly discovery while walking along the road from Accotink to Accotink Station when they discover a brown sack weighted with bricks and containing the body of a dead infant in the Mill Branch Creek.
- March 16, 1976 – 35-year-old Leroy H. Baker is convicted of murder for shooting 35-year-old Aaron Johnson at a crap game in the Lincoln Park area of Fairfax on November 29, 1975. Baker is also convicted of involuntary manslaughter for shooting 26-year-old Henry F. Greene.
- March 16, 2003 – After drunkenly injuring 28-year-old cyclist Ya Wen Su on Wiehle Avenue in Reston and being released on bond, 45-year-old Cynthia D. Paulson commits suicide in the bathtub at her home at 9717 Mill Run in Great Falls.
- March 16, 2015 – In what are believed to be unrelated incidents, the body of 22-year-old William Adolfo Rivas Leiva is discovered in a wooded area near Folly Lick Stream off the 1500 block of Hiddenbrook Drive in Herndon and the body of 19-year-old Milton Adonay Leon Angel is found in a creek behind an apartment building in the 4300 block of Ivymount Court in Annandale. Both men are found with upper body trauma consistent with homicide.
