- May 21, 1989 – Following complaints of odors, employees of the Alexandria Motel find the decomposed body of 27-year-old Deirdre Smith under the floorboards of one of the rooms.
- May 21, 1994 – 3-year-old Fateen Talib II drowns in Tompkins Basin at Fort Belvoir.
- May 21, 2010 – 18-year-old Fairfax High School student Abdel O. Chadli is killed by 32-year-old Gary A. Thorne when Thorne strikes Chadli with his 2001 Dodge Durango SUV. Thorne is also killed at the scene.
