- December 4 – While racing on the Franconia-Springfield Parkway, 30-year-old Brian B. Blaine is mortally injured when he loses control of his 2001 Honda S200 convertible and crashes near the intersection of Spring Village Drive.[1]
- December 17 – Assistant superintendent Deborah L. Tyler announces that Fort Hunt Elementary School principal Barbara Liebbrandt, who had come under intense criticism from both parents and staff after four years as principal, will resign her position effective January 1, 2014.[2][3]
- December 20 – The 7-bedroom, 7,180 square foot house at 2142 Haycock Road in Falls Church burns for the third time in just over three years.[4]
