- March 1 – Robert F. Horan officially takes over as Commonwealth's Attorney for Fairfax County from Ralph G. Louk.
- March 1 – 43-year-old Doris Mishou is strangled to death by 27-year-old Michael R. Beam in a room at the Spring Hill Motor Lodge at 5666 Columbia Pike in Falls Church.[1][2]
- March 13 – 20-year-old Wayne M. Hill unintentionally shoots his 19-year-old roommate Frank N. Gadd in the head while playing with a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun in their shared apartment at 3016 Patrick Henry Drive in Falls Church.[3][4]
