- May 17 – 24-year-old Rashad Kejuan Daye is shot and killed during an attempted robbery at the apartment of 22-year-old Kevin M. Baldwin in the Shadowood Condominiums in Reston.[1][2]
- May 22 – Annandale High School principal Vincent J. Randazzo announces his retirement, seeking to "spend more time with family and pursue new and different opportunities."[3]
- May 25 – 7-year-old Fatmata Kamara drowns in the community pool in the Lorton Station neighborhood of Lorton.[4][5]
