- October 7 – 31-year-old Robin M. Jones is raped, robbed and drowned in the bathtub of her apartment at 4001 Spring Pond Place in the Shenandoah Crossing Apartments in Fairfax by Thomas Reed, Jr..[1][2][3]
- October 10 – Circuit Court Judge William G. Plummer strikes down an ordinance restricting office development in the county.[4]
- October 16 – 30-year-old Carla J. Porritt pleads guilty to first-degree murder for suffocating her two-month-old son William in Fairfax on May 30, 1987.[5]
