- January 21, 1959 – Falls Church Supervisor Joseph H. Freehill suffers a heart attack during a meeting of the Board of Supervisors. The stricken supervisor is taken to Arlington Hospital, where he dies.
- January 21, 1978 – 34-year-old Mildred R. Pilkerton is shot to death by her husband, 40-year-old Edward C. Pilkerton, in the couple's apartment at 4345 Ivymount Court in Annandale.
- January 21, 1981 – 22-year-old Nguyen Xuan Phang is stabbed to death by his cousin, 19-year-old Nguyen Bong Van, to settle an argument in their shared apartment at 5835 Oakview Gardens Drive in Bailey's Crossroads.
- January 21, 2005 – While standing outside the apartment building at 5600 Bismach drive in Alexandria with two other teenagers, 15-year-old Annandale High School sophomore Anthony Campos is mortally wounded when two members of the Mara Salvatrucha youth organization walk up and shoot them. All three are taken to the Fairfax Hospital, where Campos is pronounced dead.
