- July 6, 1938 – The Fairfax County Planning Commission is created. The initial members of the commission, appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, are James T. Baldwin, Malcolm W. Matheson, Jr., E. R. White, Elizabeth H. Chilcott, and Edward W. Talbott.
- July 6, 1977 – The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors sells $2.7 million worth of general obligation bonds to finance the construction of the Reston Community Center.
- July 6, 1999 – 35-year-old Serena Yang is suffocated in her home at 14120 Wood Rock Way in Centreville by 43-year-old Ze Sheng Wang.
