- July 5, 1971 – 41-year-old Lieutenant Commander William F. Rolland, Sr. and his 19-year-old son Bud are shot to death to settle a traffic dispute at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Sleepy Hollow Road in Annandale by 27-year-old Roger W. Whitney.
- July 5, 1988 – Marc A. Friedlander shoots his 41-year-old estranged wife Zitta to death in the parking lot of the Mitre Corporation in McLean.
- July 5, 2001 – 15-year-old Jose Rodriguez, a member of the MS-13 youth organization, is sentenced to 23 years in prison by Judge Henry E. Hudson for the murder of Mario Rubio-Martinez on July 30, 2000, in the Culmore Shopping Center in Falls Church.
- July 5, 2008 – 54-year-old David M. Przewlocki is shot to death by officers of the Fairfax County Police Department in Oakton.
