- March 27, 1976 – A 10-year-old boy from the Northern Virginia Training Center for the Mentally Retarded, on a field trip to Mantua Elementary School, somehow manages to get past the seven-foot stockade fence surrounding the swimming pool at the nearby home of former Fairfax County Police Captain Olin F. Sanders at 3603 Kirkwood Drive in Fairfax and drowns.
- March 27, 1977 – 27-year-old George Mason University student Sylvester W. Ogu drowns in Burke Lake when the rowboat he is riding in capsizes. Ogu, a nonswimmer, was not wearing a life vest.
- March 27, 1998 – 19-year-old Carl J. Christensen unintentionally kills his best friend, 25-year-old Seung Paik, when he drunkenly turns his Mitsubishi Gallant into the path of a tractor-trailer truck at the intersection of Backlick and Edsall Roads in Springfield.
- March 27, 2012 – 13-year-old Alexis Jackson is shot to death by her father, 40-year-old former Fairfax County Police officer John W. Jackson, Jr., who then commits suicide in his SUV in the driveway of the home at 3800 Forest Grove Drive in Annandale.
