February
- February 15 – The Florida limited express train is wrecked on the Southern Railway near the Ravensworth Station, killing Engineer Thomas J. Purvis and fireman Walter Wigginton. Inspection shows that the switch on the track was deliberately opened, causing the train to divert onto a spur before it crashes down an embankment.[1][2]
June
- June 10 – 30-year-old Charles D. Keyes is fatally injured when local freight train number 62 crashes head-on into a work train near the Ditchley and Ravensworth stations. Keyes is pinned under the wreckage of one of the engines and it takes between 2 and 3 hours to free him, after which he is taken to the Alexandria Hospital, where he dies.[3][4][5]
- June 22 – John Cubbage, a laborer working on the double-tracking of the Southern Railway line, misunderstands a shouted warning and steps onto the main track, where he is struck by the southbound number 9 train and fatally injured near Edsall's Station. Cubbage is placed on the northbound number 40 train and taken to Alexandria, but dies during the trip.[6][7]

- November 20 – Thomas Wilson is murdered by Lewis Perry.[8]
