August 2013
Events that took place in Fairfax County in August, 2013:
- August 7 – On his way home from an appearance in the Fairfax County General District Court on domestic violence charges, 25-year-old Caleb Crew strangles his 31-year-old wife Andrea in a credit union parking lot. He then stashes her corpse in a Springfield park, returning later to retrieve and weight it down before finally dumping it in the Occoquan River.[1][2]
- August 16 – Dr. Robyn Hooker retires as principal of Kent Gardens Elementary School.[3]
- August 20 – 36-year-old Juan Francisco Cerna Alfaro, a worker for the Tysons Service Corporation, is killed when he falls into a 15-foot-deep hole, which then collapses, at 1050 Kinglet Court in McLean.[4][5]
- August 23 – The corpse of 16-year-old McLean High School student Emylee A. Lonczak is found on the ground outside the house at 8228 Madrillon Estates Drive in Vienna following a tip. On August 21, Lonczak had gone on a shopping excursion with Kyle Alifom and two other men to purchase heroin in Washington, D.C., and lost consciousness after being injected with a combination of heroin and antihistamines. Knowing exactly how much trouble they would be in for giving narcotics to a minor, the group decided that rather than obtain prompt medical attention for Lonczak, they should take her to Alifom's house. They placed her on a bed in the basement, where she died while Alifom slept off his buzz. Discovering her dead the next morning, Alifom dragged her body outside and covered it with a screen in some bushes next to his house.[6][7][8][9]
- August 29 – Following a 50-minute standoff at his home at 7907 Pebble Brook Court in Springfield, Fairfax County Police Officer Adam D. Torres shoots and mortally wounds unarmed 46-year-old kitchen installer John B. Geer. Geer retreats back into his townhouse, where he bleeds to death. Geer's corpse is found on the floor when the SWAT team uses a hostage rescue vehicle to knock down the front door and a team enters the home.[10][11]
