- September 1 – After over 20 years in operation, the Treasured Child consignment shop located in the Burke Village Center in Burke closes.[1]
- September 15 – 16-year-old Gerard Gomez is shot to death by 23-year-old Jose Alberto Blanco-Calzadilla in the parking lot of the Residence Inn at 8616 Westwood Center Drive in Vienna.[2][3]
- September 25 – Abir Ali is convicted of second-degree murder in the beating death of his friend and employer Bharat P. Patel in Reston on June 9, 2012.[4]
