Events that took place in Fairfax County in August, 2014:
- August 2 – While trimming the azalea bushes in front of her home in Annandale, 44-year-old Melodye Creason is stung by a bald-faced hornet and suffers a severe allergic reaction, causing her throat to swell up and prevent her from breathing. Creason is taken to the hospital, but suffers massive brain damage from the lack of air and is removed from life support eight days later. Creason dies on August 13.[1][2][3]
- August 14 – 20-year-old Edy Jimenez Balderrama is mortally injured when he crashes his 1999 Honda motorcycle into a 2004 Dodge van on Braddock Road at the intersection with the Fairfax County Parkway in Fairfax. Jimenez is airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he dies.[4]
- August 18 – W. T. Woodson High School principal Jeff Yost announces his retirement in September.[5]
- August 25 – 54-year-old Clayton F. Young is struck by a tractor-trailer on the Fairfax County Parkway near Fox Mill Road. Young is taken to the Reston Hospital Center, where he is pronounced dead.[6]
