- September 1 – 27-year-old Filaberto Felipe Paz Ramirez is murdered in the Culmore section of Falls Church.[1][2]
- September 6 – A number of local government and park officials attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly-opened Sully Highlands Park in Herndon.[3][4]
- September 8 – 32-year-old Brener Omar Llamas Rivera is struck and mortally injured by a 2011 Malibu as he jaywalks across West Ox Road near Polo Drive in Fairfax. Llamas is taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he is pronounced dead shortly thereafter.[5]
- September 16 – The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fairfax County Public Safety Headquarters building is held in Fairfax.[6][7]
- September 25 – 41-year-old Lorena Gimenez is struck and killed by a Fairfax Connector bus at the Huntington Metro Station.[8]
- September 28 – 16-year-old Cara L. Golias commits suicide in the Hemlock Overlook Regional Park in Clifton. Her corpse is found rear the railroad trestle in the park the following day.[9]
