Events that took place in Fairfax County in July, 1980:
- July 8 – 29-year-old John H. Wright fatally shoots 29-year-old Gary A. Cook and 54-year-old Grover C. Glass and injures 29-year-old Barbara Reese with a shotgun to settle an argument in the Nightingale Trailer Park in Alexandria.[1]
- July 9 – 12-year-old Susan Torres is fatally injured when the moped she is riding is struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old girl in Annandale. She dies of head injuries at Fairfax Hospital the following day.[2][3]
- July 14 – 28-year-old Terry G. Blackstock is shot to death in a secluded area near 11215 Gunston Road in Lorton.[4]
- July 18 – 33-year-old Amilcar Desprazeres beats his roommate, 45-year-old Antonio Flores, in the head with a pipe, fatally injuring him, in their apartment on Chain Bridge Road in Oakton. Flores is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies on July 23.[5]
- July 24 – 19-year-old Groveton High School dropout Robert W. Staudaher is shot and mortally wounded by Fairfax County Police Sergeant Daniel Grimes when he emerges from a second floor bedroom firing a .30 caliber rifle following a six hour standoff at the family home at 7401 Range Road in Mount Vernon. Staudaher is taken to the Mount Vernon Hospital, where he dies shortly thereafter.[6]
- July 25 – 34-year-old Richard L. Whitley strangles and cuts the throat of his neighbor, 63-year-old Phoebe Parsons, then strips her naked and sexually abuses her corpse before ransacking her home at 7718 Lisle Avenue in the Pimmit Hills neighborhood of Falls Church.[7][8]
- July 30 – Judge Barnard F. Jennings sentences William Brown, III to two life terms plus 20 years in prison for the May 26, 1979 murder of Margaret E. Goehring.[9]
