- July 13 – 45-year-old William H. Lash, III fatally shoots his autistic son, 12-year-old William H. Lash, IV, then commits suicide at his home at 1433 Pathfinder Lane in McLean.[1][2]
- July 16 – The Dauphine Steak House in Springfield closes.[3][4]
- July 27 – Tim Thomas is named as principal of Westfield High School to replace the departing Mike Campbell.[5]
