- April 26, 1913 – The Alexandria Water Company awards a $125,000 contract to the Piedmont Construction Company to build a dam across the Holmes Run, creating a reservoir that will become known as Lake Barcroft.
- April 26, 1954 – The Martha Washington Library opens in Alexandria.
- April 26, 1964 – 39-year-old Marian K. Lee asphyxiates herself in her car at her home at 4847 Ravensworth Road in Annandale.
- April 26, 1990 – 22-year-old Rita Morris is stabbed to death in the parking lot of a motel in Alexandria by 18-year-old Kendra L. Getter to settle a disagreement between Morris and Getter's mother.
- April 26, 1990 – 26-year-old Saturino Teyes is shot to death when he comes home obnoxiously drunk and gets into an argument with housemate Francisco Cabrera at 2200 Lofty Heights Place in Reston.
- April 26, 2006 – As part of a quid pro quo for an additional $150 million in funding, the Fairfax County School Board votes to turn over a dozen unneeded properties totaling 189 acres to Fairfax County.
