- August 10, 1975 – 30-year-old Maxwell G. Courtney drowns while swimming in Lake Anne in Reston.
- August 10, 1991 – The strangled corpse of 59-year-old Walter J. Graham, Jr. is found in the living room of his apartment in the Riverside Park Apartments in Alexandria by Fairfax County Police.
- August 10, 1998 – 22-year-old Michael A. Bailey shoots his 29-year-old girlfriend Rosa M. Tenorio in the head in his Reston apartment. Tenorio is taken to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she dies.
- August 10, 2011 – 39-year-old James A. Cetto II kills himself, his 41-year-old passenger, and 52-year-old Katherine F. Miller when he loses control of his 1993 Toyota pickup truck and crashes into several other cars on Backlick Road in Springfield.
