- August 19, 1976 – After attempting to strangle her two children, 40-year-old Joanne E. Ryan hangs herself in the basement of her home at 9121 Rockefeller Lane in the Winston Knolls neighborhood of Springfield.
- August 19, 1994 – 22-year-old Tracy L. Charron stabs her 52-year-old mother Linda to death and attacks her 55-year-old stepfather William Charron in her parent's bedroom at the family townhouse at 2849 Sutton Oaks Lane in Vienna. Tracy flees the scene in her white Ford Explorer with her Shetland sheepdog puppy and is arrested in Pennsylvania about five hours later after she wrecks the car.
- August 19, 2011 – Fairfax County Circuit Judge R. Terrence Ney sentences David A. Patton to 50 years in prison for the murder of Stephen A. Carr in Carr's Springfield home on September 12, 2010.
