- July 9, 1970 – 15-year-old Mark W. Tucker fatally shoots his parents, 39-year-old Donald and 38-year-old Mary, in the family home at 3522 Goodview Court in Fairfax.
- July 9, 1997 – 48-year-old cab driver Muhammad Islam is shot and mortally wounded in Alexandria in an apparent robbery. He is taken first to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and then flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he dies.
- July 9, 2011 – Following a two year long renovation and expansion project, the Dolley Madison Library in McLean reopens.
- July 9, 2012 – 54-year-old Man Ha Park pleads guilty to murder and malicious wounding in the June 6, 2011 knife attack in which he killed Mi Hwa Kim and severely wounded her sister, his former girlfriend Shanna Kim, in Centreville.
