- July 8, 1959 – Four-year-old Diane Berry drowns in Lake Barcroft in Falls Church.
- July 8, 1977 – 4-year-old John Gerik drowns in Lake Fairfax in Reston.
- July 8, 1985 – Acting Chief John E. Granfield is formally appointed to head the Fairfax County Police Department.
- July 8, 1993 – 37-year-old Jeanette G. Harper proves herself to be a terrible house guest when she fatally stabs her host, 71-year-old Ada G. Sanderson, in Sanderson's house at 2909 Rogers Drive in Falls Church.
- July 8, 1994 – 19-year-old Kamal S. Muwwakkil is sentenced to two life terms plus two years in prison by Judge Jack B. Stevens for the shotgun murder of Dale H. Fredericks during an attempted carjacking in the Penn Daw neighborhood of Alexandria on June 11, 1993.
- July 8, 2005 – After 10 months in the position, Joanmarie I. Davoli resigns as the head of the Fairfax public defender's office, citing inadequate resources from the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission.
- July 8, 2012 – 21 year-old Nicholas A. Kaelber is fatally shot by Fairfax County Police officer Edward Carpenter when Kaelber resists detention and fires a handgun at the officer.
