- May 1, 1931 – Fairfax County Policemen Carl R. McIntosh and Louis L. Finks are arrested and charged with mayhem in Arlington for shooting unarmed criminal suspect Leroy Holsinger.
- May 1, 1968 – 42-year-old Robert M. Snapp is convicted of manslaughter for shooting his estranged wife Betty outside his house at 2801 Fort Drive in Alexandria on February 3.
- May 1, 1990 – 18-year-old high school senior Jerry E. Minnick commits suicide in the most metal as fuck way possible by deliberately riding his motorcycle into a brick wall at high speed at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria.
- May 1, 1995 – By the unanimous vote of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Major M. Douglas Scott is appointed Chief of the Fairfax County Police Department over Lieutentant Colonel David R. Franklin and Major Helene M. Cassell.
