- September 13, 1979 – While stumbling home from a party, 16-year-old Lake Braddock sophomore Thomas M. Murphy is run over by at least three cars on Braddock Road and killed.
- September 13, 1999 – After extracting promises that they will upgrade the existing system, including an upgrade to allow customers to use their own cable-ready television sets, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors votes to allow Cox Communications to purchase the Media General Cable cable TV system.
- September 13, 2007 – 66-year-old Abdulkadir Munye is stabbed to death in his apartment at 11911 Winterthur Lane #104 in Reston by his 23-year-old son Mohamed Adde to settle an argument.
- September 13, 2008 – Barbara J. Bosworth is kidnapped by Keith Baskerville and Lutchman Chandler, two men from Woodbridge, from a parking garage at the Springfield Mall in Springfield. The two men drive Bosworth to Woodbridge, where she and Chandler are killed when the car crashes.
