January
- January 5 – Jayant Kadian is sentenced to 20 years in prison by Circuit Court Judge Kathleen H. MacKay for the murder of his mother, Kiran V. Kadian, in Great Falls in March 2005.[1]
- January 9 – 56-year-old Martha Majors, who was being held for the murder of her niece, 22-year-old Laquetta S. Sanders, dies in her cell at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.[2]
- January 9 – 26-year-old Martin Klapproth commits suicide by jumping from the third floor of the Johnson Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax.[3][4]
- January 12 – 34-year-old Jose Adan Rivera-Chicas is killed by a 1992 Ford F350 truck as he attempts to cross Columbia Pike in Bailey's Crossroads.[5]
- January 14 – 21-year-old Juan Antonio Melendez unintentionally kills himself when he loses control of the 1996 Ford Explorer he is driving and hits a tree in Springfield.[5]
- January 14 – 49-year-old Phyllis Lowery lies down in the path of a Fairfax County Connector bus on Richmond Highway in Alexandria and is run over and killed.[5]
- January 17 – 42-year-old Matthew M. Dowdy is convicted for the September 2005 rape and murder of Judy J. Coate in Falls Church.[6]
February
- February 1 – 45-year-old William D. Sampson mortally wounds 47-year-old Michael Vernon at the Fairview Motel at 6421 Richmond Highway in Alexandria when he stabs him to settle a dispute. Vernon is taken to the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, where he dies shortly thereafter.[7]
- February 2 – Najib Gerdak is shot 5 times in the parking lot of the Franconia District Station by Jeffrey Koger after waking a sleeping Fairfax County Police Department employee to report that Koger is ramming his 1990 Jeep Cherokee into Gerdak's cab in the parking lot and she tells Gerdak to go report the incident to his dispatcher.[8]
- February 2 – 71-year-old Ok Suk Yun is mortally injured when her 79-year-old husband attempts to turn into the Springfield Mall parking lot from Loisdale Road and his 1995 Toyota Camry is struck by a 2002 Ford Escape, spinning it into a parked Metro bus. Yun is taken to the nearby Inova Healthplex, where she is pronounced dead.[9][10]
- February 2 – Herndon Town Manager Stephen F. Owen submits his resignation, effective February 28, to become the city manager of Staunton, Virginia.[11]
- February 3 – A three-alarm fire severely damages the Donald Lacey Instructional Center in Annandale, partially collapsing the roof and displacing the 150 employees who work at the center.[12]
March
- March 2 – 26-year-old Rodolfo Cardenas is stabbed and mortally wounded in the Audubon Estates trailer park in Hybla Valley by George Lagunas and Elvis K. Amaya. The heavily-intoxicated Cardenas, not realizing the seriousness of his injuries, goes home and falls asleep on a couch, where he bleeds to death.[13][14]
- March 11 – 60-year-old Richard Peterson and his 21-year-old disabled daughter Sophia die in a fire caused by a prayer candle in their double-wide at 14530 Lanica Circle in the Meadows of Chantilly trailer park in Chantilly.[15][16]
- March 28 – 53-year-old Phuoc Huu Le is killed in Falls Church when a branch of the oak tree he was trimming snaps back and strikes him.[17]
April
- April 9 – The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appoints Ronald L. Mastin as chief of the Fairfax County Fire Department.[18]
- April 21 – 67-year-old Pedro Rodriguez is struck and mortally injured by a car driven by 86-year-old Roy I. Brooks as he crosses Telegraph Road near Huntington Avenue in Alexandria. Brooks flees the scene, and Rodriguez is taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he dies on May 12.[19]
- April 24 – 26-year-old Jason E. Lee pleads guilty to second-degree murder for killing Richard B. Gluckstern in his Fairfax apartment on June 11, 2005.[20]
May
- May 23 – 49-year-old Debra Chiles dies from carbon monoxide poisoning during an early morning fire in her home at 9207 Cardinal Forest Lane in the Gables at Gunston Corner neighborhood in Lorton. Despite being on the phone with 911 after the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department arrives and giving her location, a third floor bathroom, rescuers fail to locate Chiles until 40 minutes later, when they discover her asphyxiated corpse.[21][22][23][24]
- May 23 – A Fairfax County Police officer shoots and kills 28-year-old Randall L. Rollins at the Fairview Motel in Alexandria when Rollins, who was armed, fails to follow police instruction.[25]
June
- June 14 – 20-year-old Elaine M. Thackston kills herself and three of her passengers: 19-year-old Sarah R. Carter, 18-year-old Lydia M. Petkoff, and 18-year-old Renee N. Shelkin, when she cuts off a tractor trailer truck near the Springfield Mixing Bowl, which then strikes the Volkswagen convertible Thackston is driving.[26]
- June 30 – 41-year-old John P. Bloxham fatally shoots his ex-girlfriend's new beau, 31-year-old Todd J. Rogers, in Rogers' 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche on Phillips Drive in the Beacon Hill area of Alexandria. Rogers is taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he dies.[27][28]
July
- July 1 – 17-year-old Thu-Thao Nguyen is mortally injured in Springfield when the drunken 17-year-old driver of the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier she is riding in strikes a curb and rolls the car, ejecting them both. Nguyen is taken to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she dies.[29][30]
- July 4 – 43-year-old Hae Ja Lee is stabbed to death by her 46-year-old husband Sang Byung Kim in the kitchen of their home at 13651 Sweet Woodruff Lane in the Fair Crest neighborhood of Centreville.[31]
- July 13 – Judge Charles Maxfield sentences 26-year-old James E. Lee to 30 years in prison for the June 11, 2005 murder of Richard Gluckstern in Fairfax.[32]
- July 24 – The 1930's era Thelma's Country Store at 10200 Colvin Run Road in Great Falls is demolished.[33]
- July 28 – 29-year-old Morena Magdalena Martinez is shot to death in her home at 13620 Pennsboro Drive in Chantilly.[34][35]
August
- August 3 – Charles Caprino, an independent salesman of recreational agricultural products, is sentenced to 15 years in prison by Judge David T. Stitt for the murder of Orator W. Hall in Burke on December 10, 2006.[36]
- August 31 – 5-year-old Jana Hammad drowns in the pool at the Life Time Fitness center in Centreville.[37]
September
- September 13 – 66-year-old Abdulkadir Munye is stabbed to death in his apartment at 11911 Winterthur Lane #104 in Reston by his 23-year-old son Mohamed Adde to settle an argument.[38][39]
- September 14 – The Herndon Official Workers Center in Herndon closes.[40]
- September 29 – The Oakton Library opens.[41]
October
- October 17 – Kevin C. Kline pistol whips and then shoots 80-year-old Joan M. Gillinson in the face as she sits on a bench in the Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria. Kline flees the scene when he is discovered by a passerby concealing Gillinson's body beneath some leaves and boards a Fairfax Connector bus on nearby Route 1, leading to a four-hour standoff before he finally surrenders and is arrested.[42]
- October 18 – 50-year-old Dexter O. Richardson, Sr. is stabbed to death by his girlfriend, 32-year-old crackhead Fawn C. Scott, in their home at 10702 Warwick Avenue in Fairfax.[43]
- October 21 – While walking along the Dulles Toll Road, 17-year-old Vienna resident Ata Mehran-Nejad is hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver.[44]
- October 27 – 20-year-old Luis Miguel Abrego Romero stabs and mortally injures 23-year-old Juan Jose Alvarenga to settle an argument that began at a party at Romero's Herndon apartment. Alvarenga is taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he dies.[45][46]
- October 31 – To settle an argument, 36-year-old Randall A. Patridge fatally shoots his former roommate, 29-year-old Craig D. Webster, before returning to their former apartment at 6805 Brindle Heath Way in Kingstowne and committing suicide.[47][48]
November
- Fairfax County buys the 672-unit Wedgewood Apartments complex in Annandale for $107.5 million to provide affordable housing to the county's poor and low-income residents.[49][50]
- November 1 - 34-year-old Thomas M. Hager is sentenced to death in Federal District Court by Judge T. S. Ellis, III for the November 29, 1993 torture and murder of Barbara E. White in her Alexandria apartment.[51]
- November 24 – 27-year-old Jeremy A. Brader is killed in an early morning hit-and-run crash in Centreville by 43-year-old Daniel L. Huggins.[52][53]
- November 27 – 42-year-old former Fairfax County Sheriff's Deputy David L. Ruel commits suicide near his home in Herndon the day after his house and storage unit are searched by the Fairfax County Police investigating allegations that Ruel had sexually abused a 12-year-old boy beginning in 2001.[54]
December
- December 1 – A small electrical fire causes the evacuation of the Springfield Mall in Springfield.[55]
- December 2 – 19-year-old Christian Argueta is shot to death in the parking lot of the Cerro Grande restaurant at Springfield Mall in Springfield at around 1:45 AM by Rafael Parada-Mendoza, a member of the Pinos Locos Salvatrucha set of MS-13.[56]
- December 3 – 48-year-old Min Hyun Lee is killed while drunkenly lying on Little River Turnpike when a 20-year-old woman runs over him with a 2004 Oldsmobile.[57][58]
- December 10 – 27-year-old David M. Brandt unintentionally kills himself while racing on Interstate 495 in Falls Church when he loses control of his Mitsubishi Lancer on the Gallows Road exit ramp and smashes into a tree.[59][60]
- December 17 – Nathan P. Jones is found not guilty by reason of insanity in the stabbing murder of his mother on May 12, 2006.[61]
- December 20 – 57-year-old Matilde A. Cruz is stabbed to death at her former home at at 6508 Pinecrest Court in Annandale by her estranged husband, 56-year-old Jose L. Cruz, and found in her crashed car in the rear of the house.[62]
- December 31 – 18-year-old Jose P. Lopez is stabbed to death by 31-year-old Manuel Soliz outside Soliz' apartment building at 6018 Knollwood Drive in the Bailey's Crossroads area of Falls Church to settle an argument.[63][64]
