February
- February 26 – 27-year-old George W. Porter is convicted of murder for fatally shooting his 25-year-old common law wife Faye at the couple's Baileys Crossroads home on October 29, 1952.[1][2]
March
- March 28 – The Fairfax County Park Authority announces the appointment of William H. Lindberg as superintendent of parks, to take office on April 13.[3]
June
- June 3 – 17-year-old George Schindler, Jr. drowns while swimming in Lake Barcroft in Falls Church.[4]
- June 25 – Three electrical linemen, 27-year-old Paul Moore, 27-year-old Charles E. Townsin, and 50-year-old Walter E. Johnson, are killed and six others injured when the electrical line they are erecting touches a live 22,000 volt one on the farm of Harvey Baggett on Beulah Road in Franconia. The one man wearing rubber gloves, 50-year-old Odell E. Blevins, escapes without injury.[5]
July
- July 7 – As a solution to overcrowding in the classrooms, Fairfax County School Board member Robert F. Davis proposes operating schools year-round.[6]
August
- August 31 – The redistricting plan of Fairfax County is approved by the seven-member redistricting committee, creating the Mason District from portions of the Lee and Falls Church Districts.[7]
September
- September 25 – 51-year-old laborer Jack Yates is suffocated on the construction site of the Sleepy Hollow Elementary School in Falls Church when an unshored portion of the sewage ditch he is working in collapses.[8]
December
- December 14 - As his 2-year-old cousin Warren Breeden watches, 4-year-old Ronnie L. Pintuff hangs himself in the basement of his mother's home at 1946 Richmond Highway in Groveton.[9]
