James J. Kacur
James Joseph "Jim" Kacur (b. April 14, 1956) was the assistant superintendent for Cluster II of the Fairfax County Public Schools system from 2011 to 2014.
Early life and education
Kacur was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Laurel Highlands High School in 1974.[1][2][3] He attended St. Joseph College in Philadelphia, bet moved to Alaska before graduation.[3] After a few years in Alaska, Kacur returned to college, taking a bachelors degree in political science, with a minor in history, from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 1984.[3]
Kacur met his future wife Marie C. McGowan while in Fairbanks. The couple would go on to have two sons, Sean and Ryan.
Career
Following his graduation from UAF, Kacur worked as a substitute teacher and obtained his teaching certificate in 1990.
That same year, Kacur moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked first as a U.S. History teacher and later as an assistant principal before becoming a middle school principal.[3]
In 2000, Kacur moved to Virginia and became an assistant principal at George C. Marshall High School.[4]
Kacur moved over to become an assistant principal at the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in August 2003.[3]
On July 29, 2011, Kacur was named as the new assistant superintendent for Cluster II, replacing Phyllis Pajardo.[4]
In May 2014, Kacur was named the principal for York Junior High School in Conroe, Texas.[5]
