Ravensworth Baptist Church

The Ravensworth Baptist Church is in Annandale.

The congregation was organized in 1957 as a mission of the Annandale Baptist Church, and was constituted as a church on March 15, 1959.[1] On October 12 of that year, the Ravensworth Baptist Church was admitted into the Mount Vernon Baptist Association.[2]

For the first few years of its existence, the church held its services in the North Springfield Elementary School. In June 1962, the church's new social center, designed by architect Allen J. Dickey and built by W. R. Manchester, was completed following six months worth of construction at a cost of $164,000, and the congregation began holding its services there.[3][4] The social center was the first part of a planned three-building construction project budgeted at $750,000, and was dedicated on July 26, 1962.[4][5]

In November 1963, the Reverend Doctor Elmer S. West became the pastor of the church. Rev. West would serve until August 1966, when he became the pastor of Mars Hill Baptist Church in North Carolina.[6]

The Reverend James E. Lamkin was installed as senior pastor on October 4, 1992.[7]

On May 2, 1998, Howard W. Roberts became pastor of Ravensworth Baptist.[8]

In 2000, Ravensworth Baptist left the Southern Baptist Convention.[9]

Reverend Steve Hyde became the senior pastor of the church in September,2001.[10]

Ravensworth Baptist joined the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists in 2006.
