Norton commits suicide by asphyxiating herself with carbon monoxide in the basement garage of the family's home at 9 Wilton Road in the Wilton Woods neighborhood of Alexandria. She is discovered by her husband Howard and taken to Alexandria Hospital, where she is pronounced dead.
- December 24, 1969 – On his way to join his wife at a holiday party, 22-year-old Kenneth Ball is killed by 33-year-old Robert C. Plummer when he T-bones Ball's car on Route 50 at Westmoreland Road in Falls Church. Ball is taken to the Fairfax Hospital, where he is pronounced dead.
- December 24, 1983 – 32-year-old John P. McGlothlin grinchily murders his ex-wife Patricia as she visits with their 4-year-old son at his mother Ruby's home at 9302 Kittery Court in Fairfax.
- December 24, 2001 – 49-year-old Guy L. Favorite, III strangles his girlfriend, 47-year-old Brenda S. Hill, then hides her corpse beneath their shared trailer at 7910 Flamingo Drive in Alexandria.
