- December 23, 1969 – 12-year-old Patrick J. McCaffrey drowns when he falls through the ice while skating on a pond at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield. His corpse is recovered by divers about two and a half hours later, 15 feet from shore.
- December 23, 1970 – Columnist David Lawrence donates a large tract of land from the estate of his late wife, Ellanor C. Lawrence, to Fairfax County for use as a public park. The tract, located in the western part of the county and about a square mile in size, will become the core of the Ellanor C. Lawrence Park.
- December 23, 1987 – 32-year-old Rose Beale is stabbed to death with a butcher knife by her former boyfriend, Larry L. Sharp, in her Reston apartment. Beale was murdered about ten minutes after two officers of the Fairfax County Police Department, who had been called to the scene by Beale's sister Paulette Carter because of a violent argument between Beale and Sharp, left.
- December 23, 2000 – 42-year-old cook Thomas X. Duong is shot to death in his car behind the Culmore Shopping Center in the Baileys Crossroads section of Falls Church.
- December 23, 2003 – 17-year-old property redistributionist Jose Rodriguez kills himself and mortally injures 16-year-old Danitza Covarrubias and 15-year-old Santos Elizabeth Ramirez when he loses control of the liberated Honda Civic he is driving and crosses the median, where it is broadsided by a Lexus, on Route 50 in Falls Church. Covarrubias and Ramirez are taken to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, where they are pronounced dead.
- December 23, 2004 – Macerich announces their planned purchase of the Wilmorite real estate investment trust, whose portfolio includes Tysons Corner Center.
- December 23, 2016 – 22-year-old Kedest S. Simeneh is found shot to death in the yard of the home at 9504 Cordwood Court in the Cardinal Glen neighborhood of Burke.
