- January 24, 1966 – 42-year-old Walter Turner unintentionally kills himself when he loses control of the car he is driving and crashes on Route 1 at its intersection with the Mount Vernon Highway in Alexandria. Turner is taken to DeWitt Army Hospital on Fort Belvoir, where he is pronounced dead.
- January 24, 1992 – Circuit Court Judge J. Howe Brown sentences Dwayne A. Wright to death for the murder of Saba Tekle on October 13, 1989.
- January 24, 1997 – 23-year-old Jonathan Sorah is sentenced to 12 months in jail by Judge M. Langhorne Keith for the June 8, 1996 killing of his brother Joseph at the family home at 2304 High Drive in Vienna.
- January 24, 1997 – 22-year-old Derrick Pinkney is fatally shot in Mount Vernon.
- January 24, 1999 – 44-year-old Christine Wolf confronts her husband, 41-year-old Randy M. Kuklis, with a videotape of him with another woman, then shoots him several times before committing suicide in the couple's home at 8836 Camfield Court in Alexandria.
- January 24, 2006 – Unarmed criminal suspect Salvatore J. Culosi is fatally shot by Fairfax County Police officer Deval V. Bullock outside Culosi's townhouse at 11626 Cavalier Landing Court in Fair Oaks. Officer Bullock was unable to explain how or why he shot Culosi, who had no weapons and was not resisting arrest.
