- July 17, 1967 – 9-year-old Charles Vox drowns in the pond in Brookfield Park in Springfield when he falls off a homemade raft.
- July 17, 1985 – Following an unsuccessful business negotiation, 28-year-old Emery C. Buckman is shot to death on the front lawn of his unlicensed boarding house at 2840 Bisvey Drive in Falls Church by 26-year-old independent recreational pharmaceutical salesman Michael R. White.
- July 17, 1998 – 19-year-old Mario A. Bustillo is sentenced to 30 years in prison by Judge Gerald Bruce Lee for beating and mortally injuring 18-year-old James R. Merry with a baseball bat on December 10, 1997 outside the Popeye's restaurant in the Springfield Plaza.
- July 17, 2000 – 36-year-old Mariza Segovia is shot to death by Fidel Angel Coreas in her apartment at 7610 Savannah Street in the Falls Church Gardens apartments in Falls Church.
