- July 16, 1991 – 53-year-old Nancy M. Barnes is stabbed and mortally injured by her 29-year-old son David on the front lawn of her house at 8933 Falling Creek Court in the Red Fox Forest neighborhood of Annandale. She is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where she dies.
- July 16, 2006 – The Dauphine Steak House in Springfield closes.
- July 16, 2013 – The State Council for Higher Education in Virginia revokes the University of Northern Virginia's license to operate and orders it to close.
