- September 5, 1879 – Thomas Reid is killed by James O'Connor when O'Connor settles an argument with Reid by striking him in the head with a hoe. O'Connor, his father, Thomas, and Reid were working on a road near Dranesville when the disagreement between Reid and the O'Connors took place.
- September 5, 1958 – The Crestwood Construction corporation deeds a 2½-acre tract at Highland Road and Atteentee Road to the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department for the construction of a new station house.
- September 5, 1980 – 30-year-old Robert W. Corbett hangs himself in his cell at the Fairfax County Jail.
