- September 8, 1984 – 26-year-old James E. Herbert is shot to death by Irving L. Scott in an apartment at 2239 Castle Rock Square in Reston to settle an argument over a gambling game.
- September 8, 1987 – The nude, beaten corpse of 37-year-old Eige Sober-Adler is discovered near the construction site of a Days Inn at 2200 Centreville Road in Herndon.
- September 8, 1997 – 54-year-old Benjamin W. Brown pleads no contest to second-degree murder for stabbing 72-year-old Robert Wells to death in Reston on September 30, 1996.
- September 8, 2011 – The remains of tropical storm Lee dump up to 12 inches of rain on Fairfax County, causing the drowning deaths of 12-year-old Jack Donaldson in Vienna, 25-year-old Galo Sebastian Salvador Vinueza in Lorton, and 67-year-old Arsalan Hakimi in Great Falls.
- September 8, 2014 – 32-year-old Brener Omar Llamas Rivera is struck and mortally injured by a 2011 Malibu as he jaywalks across West Ox Road near Polo Drive in Fairfax. Llamas is taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he is pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
