Events that took place in Fairfax County in October, 2017:
- October 9 – 52-year-old Laura L. Cornelius is fatally injured when she is struck first by a 2011 Toyota Camry and then a 2007 Dodge Caliber when she steps into the roadway of Route 1 near Hagel Circle in Lorton. Cornelius is taken to the Inova HealthPlex in Lorton, where she dies.[1][2]
- October 10 – 81-year-old William H. Corum is killed in a head-on crash between the 1998 Ford Mustang he is driving and a 2008 Dodge Caliber in the 8400 block of Alban Road in Springfield.[3]
- October 14 – Following a 20-month, $5.7 million renovation, the Tysons-Pimmit Regional Library reopens in Falls Church.
- October 27 – 18-year-old Robin Buritica Carvajal is mortally injured when he falls from the upper level of a six-story parking garage at the Reston Town Center in Reston. Buritica is taken to the hospital, where he is pronounced dead on October 29.[4]
- October 28 – A twelve-year-old boy jumps from the Cedar Lane overpass onto Interstate 66 in Vienna, killing 22-year-old Marisa W. Harris when he strikes her car. The boy is taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital with severe injuries.[5]
