- January 12, 1966 – 31-year-old Billy Lee Sprinkle is shot seven times in the back with a .32 caliber automatic pistol by his 25-year-old wife Greta in the couple's house at 7117 Byrneley Lane in Annandale.
- January 12, 1990 – 28-year-old Jerry Lee Dunbar is sentenced to life in prison by Judge Johanna L. Fitzpatrick for the murder of Deirdre Smith in the spring of 1989.
- January 12, 1995 – 21-year-old Jennings R. Kettleson is shot to death in the parking lot of the National Amusements Centreville Multiplex in Centreville.
- January 12, 2007 – 34-year-old Jose Adan Rivera-Chicas is killed by a 1992 Ford F350 truck as he attempts to cross Columbia Pike in Bailey's Crossroads.
- January 12, 2008 – An early morning fire in apartment 211 at the Cavalier Club Apartments at 6200 Wilson Boulevard in Falls Church fatally burns 39-year-old Mark C. Williams. Williams is taken to Washington Burn Center, where he dies the following day.
