- March 8, 1852 – The post office at Burke's Station is established.
- March 8, 1955 – Burton E. Archer unintentionally kills himself in Fairfax when he loses control of his car and crashes into a dump truck on Route 50 at Fairfax Circle.
- March 8, 1979 – 14-year-old Deborah L. Anwyll is stabbed to death in her home at 13164 Morning Spring Lane in the Greenbriar subdivision of Chantilly.
- March 8, 1983 – 18-year-old Clydel D. Diggs pleads guilty to murdering 48-year-old David Thomas, Jr. at Thomas' apartment in Mount Vernon on October 28, 1982.
- March 8, 1984 – FBI agent Carl E. Swanson is shot in the butt while trying to arrest Arizona prison escapees Robert V. Latimer and Kenneth J. Lundien in the parking lot of Springfield Mall in Springfield.
- March 8, 1989 – 44-year-old Sandra C. Ferguson is shot to death in the parking lot of Saint James' Episcopal Church at 5614 Old Mill Road in Alexandria by Gary Donahue.
- March 8, 2000 – Following an argument with her brother, 15-year-old Naeun Yoon is struck and killed by a 1994 Mercedes driven by 29-year-old lawyer Jane L. Wagner as she walks along Route 7 in Great Falls. Yoon is taken to the Columbia Reston Hospital, where she is pronounced dead.
- March 8, 2006 – Edward O'Connor and his wife Alice, both 81 years old, die in a fire at 6536 Renwood Lane in Annandale.
