- May 12, 1964 – Irma A. Clifton is sentenced to 15 years in prison for the January 10 murder of her ex-boyfriend, Charles R. Johnson.
- May 12, 1983 – Following his arrest for public drunkenness, 37-year-old John R. Thompson is found unconscious on the floor of his cell in the Fairfax Jail. He is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies early the next day.
- May 12, 1992 – Fairfax County Police Chief John E. Granfield announces that he will retire from the FCPD in June.
- May 12, 2006 – 57-year-old Pamela A. Jones is stabbed to death by her 24-year-old son, Nathan P. Jones, in the family home at 3232 Sherman Street in the Mosby Woods neighborhood of Fairfax.
