- October 22, 1974 – Without public notice and following nine minutes of public discussion, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approves in a 1:00 a.m. vote setting up the Fairfax County Industrial Authority for the purpose of issuing $10.4 million in revenue bonds to finance the purchase of Commonwealth Doctors Hospital in the City of Fairfax.
- October 22, 1975 – 17-year-old David M. Blake mortally wounds himself at the house of a friend at 7533 Republic Court in Alexandria when he jokingly places a loaded 9 millimeter automatic pistol to his head and pulls the trigger. Blake is taken to the Alexandria Hospital, where he dies eight hours later.
- October 22, 2004 – After assaulting his former girlfriend at gunpoint, then stabbing her, 38-year-old security guard Esdibar Rosero commits suicide at the Tysons Corner Center by shooting himself in the back of the Lenkersdorfer jewelry store.
- October 22, 2010 – 44-year-old Kathleen Tran is shot to death by her husband, 43-year-old Tony Tong, in her bedroom in the family home at 13854 Rembrandt Way in the Chantilly Green Estates neighborhood of Chantilly.
- October 22, 2014 – 77-year-old Gladys Moline is fatally injured in a car crash in Fairfax Station when the driver of the 1994 Lexus she is riding in turns into the path of a 2007 Freightliner truck, which strikes the Lexus. Moline is taken to the hospital, where she dies.
