- October 21, 1959 – Following an argument with his wife Rhonda, 22-year-old Martin F. Jones shoots himself in the head at the couple's home at 1316 Washington Avenue in Alexandria.
- October 20, 1977 – 17-year-old Christian J. Karotsch is shot and mortally wounded in Falls Church to settle an argument precipitated when two youths accost him for marijuana. Karotsch is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies early the next day.
- October 21, 1992 – 46-year-old Jerome W. McKagen is found shot to death in his Vienna home.
- October 21, 2005 – 19-year-old Durrell M. Pretty is sentenced to 13 years in prison by Judge Jane Marum Roush for the fatal shooting of Brendan H. Tash on March 6.
- October 21, 2007 – While walking along the Dulles Toll Road, 17-year-old Vienna resident Ata Mehran-Nejad is struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver.
- October 21, 2015 – 72-year-old Silvia Raquel Corella Erazo is struck and mortally injured by a 30-year-old Sterling-area man driving a 2005 Honda Accord as she attempts to cross Wiehle Avenue near Chestnut Grove Square in Reston. Corella is taken to the Reston Hospital Center, where she dies.
- October 21, 2016 – 19-year-old Haroon Jameel unintentionally kills himself when he crashes his 2016 Yamaha R3 motorcycle into the back of a disabled truck on Sully Road near the Lee Jackson Memorial Highway in Chantilly.
