- September 23, 1990 – 46-year-old Jimmy D. Hardy, Sr. is shot to death by 26-year-old Shari Thomas in a room at the Traveler's Motel at 5916 Richmond Highway in Alexandria.
- September 23, 1995 – 17-year-old Brad B. Khatchi dies when he crosses the center line of Clifton Road with his 1988 Toyota Camry and crashed into a 1995 Crown Victoria in Clifton.
- September 23, 2005 – 31-year-old Judy J. Coate is raped, beaten and stabbed to death by 40-year-old Matthew M. Dowdy in Falls Church.
- September 23, 2012 – 57-year-old Albert M. Peterson fatally shoots his 52-year-old wife Kathleen and two sons, then commits suicide in the family home at 13391 Point Rider Lane in the Borneham Wood neighborhood of Herndon.
