- August 14, 1927 – 18-year-old Edith Rudacille is mortally injured when motorcyclist Joseph W. Taylor strikes her as she crosses a road in Merrifield. She is taken to the Georgetown Hospital, where she dies the next day.
- August 14, 1988 – Following his arrest on a charge of public drunkenness at his house in Reston, 48-year-old guitarist Roy Buchanan is either murdered or commits suicide and is found hanged in his cell at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
- August 14, 1997 – 11-year-old Abdirahman Ali and 10-year-old Abdirizak Hussein drown while wading in Lake Barcroft.
- August 14, 2014 – 20-year-old Edy Jimenez Balderrama is mortally injured when he crashes his 1999 Honda motorcycle into a 2004 Dodge van on Braddock Road at the intersection with the Fairfax County Parkway in Fairfax. Jimenez is airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he dies.
